The Dallas Mavericks will once again participate in the Las Vegas Summer League, which will begin July 11th against the New York Knicks. The team has recently announced the full roster.
Mavs Summer League Roster
Ricky Ledo, SG: Last year’s second round selection will be the featured player for the Mavs. He spent most of last season in the D-League With Wayne Ellington in New York, this is Ledo’s opportunity to show he can back up Monta Ellis.
Gal Mekel, PG: Like Ledo, Mekel was a rookie last season and will have plenty to prove. He spent the early part of the season as the Mavs primary backup to Calderon due to Shane Larkin and Devin Harris being out with injuries. Mekel will need to prove that he’s healed from his injury. Also, the he’ll need to show that he he’s improved in his decision-making and shooting.
Bernard James, C: This could easily be his last opportunity to stay in the league. The shot-blocking big man is now 29. Age is not on his side.
Jackie Carmichael, PF: He was easily the most impressive summer league invitee last season. A strong showing may land him a preseason invite from the Mavs or an NBA team..
Chris Smith, SG: The brother of J.R Smith. He was on the Knicks roster last season, but was once referred to as the worst player to ever suit up in the NBA.
C.J. Fair, F: He was expecting the Mavs to draft him before they traded away their draft picks. The Mavs supposedly really like him. He was Syracuse’s top player last season. It’s to be seen which position he can play in the NBA.
Ivan Johnson, F/C: The bully big man spent last season in China after spending to good seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. He could be seen as a cheap replacement for DeJuan Blair if he departs for a new team.
Yugi Togashi, PG: A 5’8″ point guard from Japan. Very quick guard. Will be interesting to see how his lack of height favors against bigger competition.
Chris Goulding, G: The Australian guard was the first Mav summer invite. The team may see something in him.
Javon Mcrea, F: He’s an undersized bruiser.
The rest of the roster: Sean Evans (F), Axel Toupane (G/F), James Nunnally (F), and Dee Bost (G)
