Mavericks 'pushing on an offer sheet agreement' with Chandler Parsons

The Dallas Mavericks came into the offseason looking to sign a big fish like Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James. After meeting with both, Anthony in Dallas and James’ agent in Cleveland, they’ve seemed to decide to move on as if they’re out of the running even though they haven’t been told as much yet.

Chris Broussard of ESPN says the Mavs are moving on to “Plan B” in a column on Monday morning.

Dallas, believing it will likely lose out on both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, will attempt to sign Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets. The Mavericks also have Luol Deng and Trevor Ariza in their sights, sources said.

But Stephenson has also recently emerged as a target of the Mavericks. A month ago, or even a few weeks ago, Stephenson was not on Dallas’ radar, but over the past few days the Mavericks have registered their interest, according to sources.

It didn’t take long for that to come to fruition with Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo reporting that the Mavericks are “pushing on an offer sheet agreement with Houston restricted free agent Chandler Parsons” hours later.

This is a step in the right direction for the Mavericks in free agency. Not the step they hoped they’d be making, but a step none the less.
