Vince Carter and Shawn Marion highlight the Mavs’ free agents. Both played vital roles last season for the team, but only one may being donning a Dallas jersey next season. According to Dwain Price of the Star-Telegram, Carter will probably be the choice.
Between Vince Carter and Shawn Marion, a source said the Mavs’ best chance is that they’ll be able to keep Carter. But they want both back.

Carter, 37, has been with the team the last three seasons; he’s taken over the 6th man responsibility over the last two after the departure of Jason Terry. He averaged 11.9 points and shot 39.4% from three for the Mavs.
Marion, 36, has been in Dallas the last five seasons, starting the majority of his tenure. While he has slowed down, he’s still a capable defender and rebound for the team. He averaged 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds this season.
With the team currently looking for a new starting small forward, it comes to no shock that Marion, and not Carter, could be playing for a new team next season.
Both have been linked to playoff contenders this offseason.
