The Dallas Mavericks are in the thick of the free agency pursuit of Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James. If they don’t get either of those players, they could pursue other options like restricted free agent Chandler Parsons of the Houston Rockets.
If they had to find a back up plan to Anthony or James, Parsons might be their best bet. In order to get Parsons they’d need Camrelo to go to Houston.
From ESPN Dallas:
The Mavs realize that the only realistic way the Houston Rockets would decline their right to match an offer to restricted free agent Chandler Parsons is if they replace him in the starting lineup with a perennial All-Star small forward. So, as much as they’d love to win the Melo derby, the second-best scenario would be seeing him join stars Dwight Howard and James Harden in Houston.
Should Anthony sign with the Rockets, the Mavs would swoop in and attempt to sign Parsons to a lucrative offer sheet.
What Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas is saying, is that any offer the Mavs made Parsons would be matched by Houston. If Houston signs Anthony, they’d be unable to match an offer by Dallas.
It’d be a rough move for Parsons, who helped recruit center Dwight Howard to the Rockets.
