The Dallas Mavericks finally had their opportunity to speak with Carmelo Anthony. Now they’ll have to wait as he determines where he’ll be playing for the next four to five seasons.
If Anthony opts to not play in Dallas, they’ll have to quickly turn their attention to their “Plan B” options. ESPN’s Marc Stein has already reported that the team will quickly turn to Luol Deng and Chandler Parsons if Anthony’s future is not in Dallas.
Another possible option is Wizards’ free agent Trevor Ariza. It’s a strong possibility Ariza stays in Washington, but it can still be in play. Like Ariza, Parsons could also be a hard get. His restricted label allows the Rockets to match any offer. And if the Rockets miss out on Anthony, they may match any offer to keep Parsons in Houston.
If Anthony decides to play in Dallas, the Mavs will finally have a true All-Star next to Dirk Nowitzki. If not, the team will have to work quit and plug the vacant small forward spot, preferably it’s one of Deng, Parsons, and Ariza.
