The Dallas Mavericks are looking at every possible free agent and extending feelers all over the place. As the Mavericks’ name gets linked to every player on the market it is important to understand a lot of is is just gauging what it would take to sign a player to put together back-up plans and various combinations of options for various scenarios.
One of those names is Sacramento Kings restricted free-agent point guard Isaiah Thomas.
From ESPN Dallas:
A team source confirmed that the Mavs reached out to Sacramento Kings restricted free-agent point guard Isaiah Thomas but denied reports that Dallas was “going hard” after him. The source insisted that the team’s hope is to re-sign Harris.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s first meeting in free agency was with point guard Devin Harris, but after trading away Jose Calderon the Mavericks need some help at the position. The Calderon trade brought New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton to Dallas, but Felton is considered inconsistent and not a reliable starter for the Mavericks at point guard.
Hearing Isaiah Thomas’ decision will come after Kyle Lowry‘s. SAC and Thomas have strong mutual respect. Market value is key: $6 to $8 mil.
