Carmelo Anthony To Meet With Dallas Mavericks On Wednesday

The Dallas Mavericks wanted the opportunity to sit down with Carmelo Anthony and they got it.

The Mavericks are expected to be able to give their pitch to Anthony on Wednesday, June 2nd. After acquiring Tyson Chandler from the New York Knicks, they believe their chances of finally landing a big fish has greatly improved.

Free agency begins Tuesday, June 1st. The Chicago Bulls will get the first crack at Anthony, as they are scheduled to meet Tuesday.

Like Dallas, the Houston Rockets will also be meeting with Anthony in Texas on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Lakers will get their turn the following week.

Anthony, 30, is considered the second biggest name on the market; LeBron James is the obvious number one. Anthony averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for the disappointing Knicks this season. He holds career averages 25.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

Dirk Nowitzki, Rick Carlisle, Chandler, and their recent playoff showing against the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs will most likely be the Mavericks selling point to Anthony.

It was reported earlier in the week that the Mavericks were on Anthony’s list of teams to visit.

Chandler has already made it known that he’ll try to help recruit Anthony to Dallas.

The Mavericks are also reportedly interested in LeBron James, Luol Deng, and Trevor Ariza to fill the vacancy at small forward. Shawn Marion is currently not under contract with the team.

James has yet to announce which teams he plans on speaking with.
