The Dallas Mavericks made a move to bring back New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler, a piece that was integral to their 2011 Championship run. Chandler returns to the Mavericks looking to fill a void that they’ve been looking to replace ever since he left, rim protection, finishing at the basket and offensive rebounding.
With Chandler there to fill those voids, how close is the team that took the 2014 Champions to seven games in a series to a championship?
“If you can challenge the champs like that and be a play or two away from actually advancing, that means you’re close,” Chandler said, via ESPN Dallas. “So I think this team is close.”
With Chandler back in Dallas they’re looking to contend for another championship, and superstar power forward Dirk Nowitzki is thrilled.
“He helped me get the championship,” Nowitzki said, via NBC Sports. “We had great chemistry together, and if it’s true I’ll be more than thrilled.”
Now all that remains for the Mavericks is to talk to free agents when the window opens in July when the window opens. LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are the big names on the market, and the Mavericks have the cap space to be in the conversation. Landing one of those players would be the finishing touch for what the Mavericks hope will be a 2014 championship run.
