Looks like the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks won’t be the only team dealing today. Reports have come out of the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans are close to finalizing a deal.
The Rockets will send backup center Omer Asik to the Pelicans for a future protected 2015 first round selection.

This move saves the Rockets a little more than eight million dollars on the books and fifteen million overall due to his poison pill contract.
Asik should slide right in at center for the Pelicans, with Anthony Davis at power forward.
Asik averaged 5.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and .8 blocks for the Rockets this season. He holds career averages of 5.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and .9 blocks; he played for Chicago Bulls as well to begin his career.
Jeremy Lin and his contract could be dealt in the same fashion as Asik if the Rockets believe it’s necessary.
Prior to trading for Tyson Chandler, the Mavericks were expected to express interest in the Asik.
