NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony To Consider Mavericks?

Not even the NBA Finals can stop offseason rumors from swirling around.

Marc Stein of ESPN Dallas has reported that the Dallas Mavericks are one of several teams Carmelo Anthony would consider signing with if he elects to opt-out of the final year of his deal.

Anthony, 30, is probably looking at his final big pay day, while also looking to finally reach the NBA Finals.

As poorly as the New York Knicks were this season, Anthony enjoyed one of his better seasons in the league; he averaged 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

It is to be seen if Anthony will demand a max contract. If so, it may limit his options outside of New York.

Over his career, he holds averages of 25.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, while suiting up for the Knicks and Denver Nuggets over his eleven seasons in the league.

The Mavs have a hole at small forward with starter Shawn Marion declining and also a free agent.

The Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets have also been listed as possible destinations.

No thanks. If we didnt have Monta Ellis I would be all for it. Unless we can trade him, I would shy away from Melo on the account that we will not have anyone on D that can do much of anything. Calderon, Ellis, Melo, Dirk and Dalembert. Not the D your lookin for.

Also, when you carry the entire offensive load for a loser team, your motivation to play hard defense is minimal. Melo can guard when he wants to and on a championship caliber team he would want to.
