Grade The Mavericks: Bernard James

The season is over and all we can do is either look back or look ahead. We’re going to take some time and look back, and the TSC team will be grading the Dallas Mavericks.

Sarge reporting for duty.

Bernard James: .9 points, 1.4 rebounds, .3 blocks

Ace Feltman (@MFFeLtman): C+ Bernard “Sarge” James was seldom used in his second NBA season. After serving his country in the Air Force, the 6 foot 10 big man will be 30 years old in his third season next February…if he’s rostered by then. I truly believe there’s a spot on at least a handful of the league’s 30 teams for Sarge, but with all the big men ahead of him each season and presumably again next year, it’s tough to see one of my personal favorites cracking the Dallas rotation in his career.

Bailey Rogers (@BRogers789): D Did Sarge play at all this year? In a year where all three of members of the Mavs’ center rotation took turns in Carlisle’s dog house, Bernard James still could not do enough to be given a chance to prove himself in real NBA minutes. Sarge seems like a great dude, and I wish him well in life, but it sure doesn’t look like he’s going to be in the NBA once his rookie deal is up.

Jose De Leon (@JoseOfLion06): D+ Sarge appears to be just a step behind the NBA game. Watching him play on both ends of the floor is like watching me try to do Calculus. Just not going to solve the problem and there will likely be tears. Unfortunately, I don’t see him getting any better and he’s taking up a roster spot that could be used on a player that could help win a title.

Rami Michail (@RamiMichail): C+ Bernard played in only 30 games this season. I’m being very generous because the only game I recall him playing in and being a factor was in Portland. You know, the game where Monta Ellis hit that amazing game winner.
