The season is over, and all we can do is either look back or look ahead. We’re going to take some time and look back, and the TSC team will be grading the Dallas Mavericks.
The Rookie from Israel is up.
Gal Mekel: 2.4 points, 34.9% fg, 2 assists, 1 turnover
Ace Feltman (@MFFeLtman): D Gal Mekel was brought in on an extremely salary cap friendly three year deal to occupy a roster spot instead of Nick Calathes for this season, who was flipped for some change. Gal was a very productive player overseas and has third string point guard capabilities, but let’s be real, he’s just gonna save Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and company from dealing with financially filling roster spot #15 through 2016. Also, there’s a little potential as a floor manager, but you’ve got to be able to score to play outside the main unit.
Bailey Rogers (@BRogers789): D+ Oh Gal we hardly knew ye. With Devin and Shane both injured to start the season, Gal got quite a bit of burn as the backup PG. And it was very… underwhelming. While Gal has got some serious passing skills and is a very beautiful man, the rest of his game just doesn’t seem NBA-ready. I think we made a big mistake letting go of the rights to Calathes just to sign Gal. Ultimately, I think Larkin has much more promise, and I don’t want to see Gal taking any of Shane’s minutes away.
Jose De Leon (@JoseOfLion06): C- I’m not ready to give up on Mekel. His game is all flash with little substance but I do think he can get better and be a contributor on a championship team. He showed great court vision but it seemed like his head processed plays faster than his body could. If his body can catch up with his brain, I think we’ll see someone that can manage a team while the starters are on the bench. Keyword is manage, I don’t expect him to be a total game changer.
Rami Michail (@RamiMichail): D This picture summarizes how I felt every time Gal shot, looked off a teammate, or turned the ball over.
