The Dallas Mavericks attention is now focused on next season. Plenty of rumors and ideas will be swirling around during the offseason on how to improve this roster.
Even with their first round exit, the Mavericks showed they are a couple of pieces away form being back in contention once again.
Carmelo Anthony, 29, will most likely be the biggest name in free agency if he decides to opt out of the final season of his contract.
He’s received plenty of criticism for the New York Knicks abysmal season, but the All-Star still put up stellar number. He was second in the NBA in scoring, averaging 27.4 points while grabbing a career high 8.1 rebounds this season.
This will most likely be Anthony’s last big contract, so he may be out of the Mavs’ price range. But if he isn’t and takes a cheaper deal, the Mavs may be in play.
The Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors have been also rumored as early possible destinations.
The Mavericks would prefer to add defense to the small forward spot, but can they pass up on Anthony if the opportunity presents itself?
Jae Crowder is the only small forward under contract at the moment. Veterans Vince Carter and Shawn Marion are free agents and the team must decide if they’ll bring them back.
