The Dallas Mavericks will be without a key player for Wednesday’s showdown. The NBA has suspended backup center DeJuan Blair for game 5 between the San Antonio Spurs and Mavericks.
The 6’7″ bruiser was coming off his best game of the series, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals in 16 minutes. Most importantly, he was the catalyst that helped the Mavericks rally from 20 down to just barely fall short.
Late in the game, Blair was ejected for kicking center Tiago Splitter in the head after a foul call. It is that kick that has forced the NBA to come down with a suspension.
Overall, Blair has had a quiet postseason; he’s averaging just 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in only 9.3 minutes of action.
After spending 4 years with the Spurs, Blair signed a minimum one year deal with the Mavericks. He’s averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 15.6 minutes of action in his first season with Dallas.
