The Dallas Mavericks (48-31) concluded their perfect road trip by taking down the Utah Jazz (24-54) 95-83.
Dirk Being Dirk: Dirk Nowitzki doesn’t look to cool down after earning player of the week honors. He scored 21 points on 9-11 shooting, while also adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Oh, he also passed Oscar Robertson for 10th All-Time on the NBA’s scoring list.
Come Out Firing: The Mavericks would miss just one shot in the first period, shooting 16-17 and leading 39-25 at the end of the quarter.
Balance: With a great shooting night, it’s expected to have plenty of contributors. Seven Mavs would score at least 9 points. Monta Ellis (16) and Vince Carter (13) would round out the top three scorers alongside Nowitzki.
Big Duo: The Jazz are stacked with plenty of young talent. Their two young studs gave the Mavericks plenty of trouble throughout the night. The duo of Enes Kanter (15 points and 19 rebounds) and Derrick Favors (19 points and 7 rebounds) had big night.
The Mavericks atoned their botched home stand by sweeping their four game road trip. They’ve put themselves in a great situation to finish the season. They now hold a one game lead over the Phoenix Suns and a two game lead and own the tiebreaker on the Memphis Grizzlies.
With three games remaining, the Mavericks control their own playoff destiny.
They’ll host the Tony Parker-less San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. Tipoff is at 7 PM CT on TNT.
