Player of the Game: Mavericks at Kings (Poll)

Even in the Dallas Mavericks (47-31) 93-91 win over the Sacramento Kings (27-50), the winning team may not have the player of the game.

Dirk Nowitzki had an off night (5-17 shooting), Brandan Wright finished with just two points, and Ben McLemore had only 5 points.

The Candidates

Monta Ellis: To make up for Nowitzki’s off night, Ellis picked up the slack. He put up 23 points to go with his 4 assists.

Jose Calderon: It seemed like every time the Mavericks need a bucket, Calderon was there. Multiple times he hit a 3 to give the team a lead over the Kings. He had just 14 points and 2 assist but hit timely shots.

Vince Carter: Carter’s back-to-back 3’s didn’t just move him up the NBA’s scoring list, it gave the Mavs the lead for good. He ended the game with 17 points.

Rudy Gay: The Mavericks have had no answer for Gay at all this season. He came into the game averaging 30+ against the Mavs this season. Tonight wasn’t any different as he put up 32 points and 8 assists in the losing effort.

DeMarcus Cousins: Another Mavs killer.  Though he missed the last second shot to force overtime, he had an impressive 28 points and 10 rebounds night.

Verdict

Even with the Mavericks getting the win, the player of the game will belong to a Kings’ player. If it wasn’t for Gay’s phenomenal game, where he scored and created for his teammates, this could have been a blowout for the Mavericks.
