After striking out on the NBA’s best player during the 2010 offseason, the Dallas Mavericks are expected to target LeBron James again during free agency.
Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News,
Of course they’ll make a run at him. They can throw maximum money at him. But it just doesn’t sound like James is in the mood to prove himself in a situation that isn’t ready-made to be a title team. He can go wherever he wants, assuming he opts out. I could see him considering a lot of other teams before the Mavericks. But that won’t keep them from making their pitch.James is expected to opt-out of his contract this coming offseason.
Over the last few years the Mavs have struck out on Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Dwight Howard.
The Mavericks may be more appealing this time around. Back in 2010 the roster consisted of aging veterans Jason Kidd and Jason Terry among others.
This new look squad consists of a pass first and 3-pt threat point guard (Jose Calderon), a slashing/scroring guard in the mold of Dwyane Wade (Monta Ellis), and one of the NBA’s best, who continue to beat father time (Dirk Nowitzki).
Even if the likely hood of James leaving Miami is minuscule, we all know it won’t stop the Mavs from trying to pursue one of the best to ever play the game.
So Come on LeBron, put your Mavericks’ jersey on!
