After losing two straight games, the Dallas Mavericks(26-20) must feel good after beating the Detroit Pistons (17-27) 116-106.

He’s Still Dirk: Dirk Nowitzki finished with a game high 28 points and 9 rebounds. He was 10-16 from the field and 3-5 from the 3-pt line.

Rebounding: The Mavs didn’t win the rebounding battle but kept it close (41-39). The Pistons did have 17 offensive rebounds to the Mavs 7 though.

Harris+Bench: Devin Harris sure put on a show for the Mavs today. He tied his season high of 14 points and added a season and game high 7 assists. Harris showed it all again, with his drives, mid-range Js and creating for his teammates. He provided some good defense again also. Harris’s best plays consisted of hitting a spot of J then following it with a 3-point pull-up towards the end of the third. Vince Carter, Brandan Wright, and DeJuan Blair added another 30 points from the bench.

Turnover Woes: Excluding the offensive rebounds given up, the Mavericks turnovers may have been their biggest Achilles-heel tonight. They committed a total of 17 team turnovers. Monta Ellis was the biggest culprit with 8.

Pistons 20+: Josh Smith (25), Brandon Jennings (26), and Greg Monroe (20) all had big nights for the Pistons.

Pistons’ Duds: Andre Drummond finished with just 4 points and 6 rebounds for the team. The Pistons also struggled from the free throw line: shooting just 16-28 (57.1%).

Hot Jose!: Jose Calderon shot 7-9 and finished with 17 points for the Mavs. Surprisingly he was just 1-2 from 3, with majority of his makes from midrange.

The Mavericks will have the next two days off to rest and strategize till they face the Houston Rockets (29-17) on Wednesday at 7:30 pm CT.
