Bernard James

18 games. 5.7 mins, 1.3 pts, 1.7 rebounds, .28 blocks, 47.4% fg

AF: B+ When Sarge plays, he’s productive. He just doesn’t play much and as a soon-to-be 29 year old sophomore player, I’m not sure he ever will have a bigger role. But when he plays, I love it. Also he blocked 7 shots last year in a game vs. the Hornets, a franchise rookie record. That kind of thing isn’t an accident.

RM: Sarge really hasn’t had much of an opportunity to get on the court, so his grade should be lower, but I’m being a little generous. Without him we probably wouldn’t have won that first game against the Blazers.

Rodney Fisher: D Sarge is a great story for the NBA and the Mavericks, but has not shown enough in practice to warrant coach Carlisle to play him more. You would think with all the deficiency the Mavs have guarding the paint that they would put James in to at the least take some fouls, but that rarely happens. He has a great opportunity to steal some minutes on this team if he can get it together.
