Rod Thorn (NBA President of Basketball Operations ) announced today,
After reviewing postgame video, we have determined a foul should have been called on Dallas’Monta Ellis for illegal contact on the arms of New Orleans’ Austin Rivers while Rivers was attempting a three-point field goal.
Ellis stripped Austin Rivers’ last second shot as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 110-107.
As the Mavericks were celebrating the win, the Pelicans were not too pleased with the no-call.
Pelicans head coach Monty Williams was not happy at all after the game,
That’s just not right. If we stopped it with .5 on the clock, Monta Ellis’ arm is across Austin’s — both of his arms for a 3-point shot. It’s hard to swallow that kind of no-call in a game like that, especially when Dirk gets the same call on the right side in the first half.
The Mavericks attempted 45 free throws to the Pelicans 31.
This was not the first time the Mavericks have found themselves on the right side of a non-foul call. The league announced that a foul call should have been called against Shawn Marion on Kevin Love’s last second shot when the Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-98 on December 30th.
