Dirk Nowitzki Drops 40 In Win Over New Orleans

At the young age of 35-years old, Dirk Nowitzki drops 40-points on the New Orleans Pelicans to push the Dallas Mavericks to a second straight win over the same team, 110-107.

Last night, the second game of a back-to-back with the Pelicans, Dirk had his best game of the season.

The win did not come as easy the second time around. The Mavs won 107-90 on the road in New Orleans, shooting 52.6% from the field and scoring 62-points in the first half. Nowitizki shot 10-of-19 for 24 points.

Dallas led 42-37 at halftime even though they shot a bad 27% from the field in the first half. In the third quarter, both teams together scored more than in the entire first half.

The third quarter proved just how great Dirk is. He scored 20 of his 40 points in the quarter. In one stretch, Dirk scored 15 straight points, hitting 6-for-6 from the field. This is the fourth time in his career that he has scored 20 points in a a quarter.

Nowitzki’s 40-point performance is a season-high, beating his 35-point performance against the Houston Rockets on November 20th. This is his first 40-point game since 2012.

Game Notes: Shane Larkin left the game in second half with a sprained ankle. Shawn Marion, Devin Harris, and Wayne Ellington all missed the game due to injuries or illness. Ricky Ledo played two minutes in the game for no points.
