The Dallas Mavericks (21-16) head back come to conclude a back-to-back against the New Orleans Pelicans (15-20).
The Mavericks won the first game of this back to back set 107-90, led by Dirk Nowitzki’s 24 points. Monta Ellis added 23 points and 8 assists. Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon combined for 48 of the Pelicans 90 points. Jae Crowder got the start with Shawn Marion (shoulder) and Wayne Ellington (Illness). Crowder finished with 12 points and 3 rebounds in 40 minutes.
The Pelicans have now lost 4 straight games and are just 6-13 on the road.
On the season they’re putting up 101.4 points per game while allowing 103.
The Pelicans will be without leading scoring (19.8 ppg) and 3-pt threat (40.9%) Ryan Anderson (Herniated Disk) and leading assist man Jrue Holiday (14.3 pts, 7.9 assists).
Anthony Davis has been putting up All-Star numbers this season, with averages of 19.2 points (52.6%), 10.1 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks(leads NBA).
Offseason additions Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans (13pts, 4.3 assists) have had decent years to this point.
Both have struggled over during the 4 game losing streak. Holiday-6.6pts, 5.6 assists (3 games), Evans- 6.5 pts, 1.75 assists.
Eric Gordon has finally been healthy for the season and is averaging 15.6 points.
The Pelicans rank 4th in the NBA with 12.9 offensive rebounds per game.
Continue to rebound. In the first meeting the Mavs were out rebounded 58-38 by these Pelicans. The Mavs were able to win the rebounding battle 39-38 last night.
Contain Eric Gordon. With Holiday and Anderson out, the Pelicans don’t exactly have many other options. Gordon lit the Mavs up for 27 points on 9-13 shooting.
Keep the Pelicans out of the paint. The Pelicans scored 52 of their 90 points in the paint. The Mavs must force everyone but Gordon and Davis to hit shots.
The Mavericks were able to contain Al-Farouq Aminu last night. He had just 4 points and 5 rebounds. In the first meeting of the series he put up 16 points and 20 rebounds.
They Mavs hit a season high 14 3’s last night against the Pelicans on 28 attempts.
The Mavericks are 12-6 at home, 6-3 verse the Division, 12-12 against the West, and 4-5 on the second game of back-to-backs.
The Pelicans are 3-6 on the second game of back-to-backs.
