This Weeks Dallas Mavericks Preview
Wed Oct 30 vs Atlanta @ 7:30 CT (Al Horford)
Fri Nov 1 @ Houston @ 7:30 CT (Dwight Howard, Omar Asik)
Sat Nov 2 Vs Memphis @ 7:30 CT (Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph)
Key Player of the Week: Samuel Dalembert
Dalembert will have his hands full this week as the Dallas Mavericks face the Hawks, Rockets, and Grizzlies this week. Dalembert will have the responsibilities of matching up with Horford, Howard, Asik, Gasol, and Randolph throughout the games.
For Dalembert to be a factor he needs to be able to avoid foul trouble and remain on the court. It was evident in the preseason that Dalembert is the team’s only post presence on defense. With Brandan Wright’s uncertain return, the Mavericks only other reliable big is DeJuan Blair. Blair may be able to body up against Randolph, but lacks the height to match up with Howard and Gasol on a consistent basis.
For Dalembert, this first week of the season is very important for him to prove to Carlisle and the team that he can avoid foul trouble and show that he can be the defense presence this team sorely needs.
It was evident in the preseason that the Mavericks are a much better team with Dalembert on the court. Now the Mavericks need it to translate to the regular season on a consistent basis.
When Mark Cuban said Dalembert is “key” to this team’s success, he wasn’t exaggerating.
