Here’s a look at the Dallas Mavericks upcoming week.
Wed Oct 30 vs Atlanta 7:30 CT
Fri Nov 1 @ Houston 7:00 CT
Sat Nov 2 Vs Memphis 7:30 CT
The Mavericks haves seen all three teams during the preseason, but Memphis and Atlanta held out players and Nowitzki was ejected at the end of the third quarter for his flagrant 2 foul on Omri Casspi against Houston.
It will be important for the Mavericks to begin the season strong, especially against two division rivals early on.
The Mavericks season and home opener begins against the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are a team in transition, as they’ve let go of Joe Johnson and Josh Smith over the last two seasons. The team now is built around center Al Horford and newly sign forward Paul Millsap. The Hawks like the Mavericks aren’t viewed as a guaranteed playoff team, so every game is important for their playoff hopes.
Next the Mavericks begin their first double header of the season against state rivals Houston Rockets. Houston has added prized free-agent Dwight Howard to a team that consists of James Harden, Jeremy Lin, and Chandler Parsons. Expect Houston to put two or three shooters on the court around Harden and Howard for most of the game. This will be a tough game for the Mavericks if they must double Howard in the post with all of Houston’s shooters on the court.
After Houston, the Mavericks fly back home to face the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies bring back their core group of Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and Mike Conley Jr, but their biggest change comes at the coaching position. Lionel Hollins was let go then replaced by Assistant Coach Dave Joerger. It will be interesting to see if this change hurt the Grizzlies. The Mavericks must figure out a way to rebound against the Grizzlies’ size.
What do you hope to see out of the Mavericks this week?
