In a shocking move today, the Dallas Mavericks have hired ex-Houston Rockets VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas as their new GM. He will replace Donnie Nelson, who will now serve as president of basketball operations.
Rosas spent nine years with the Rockets organization and worked his way up the ladder starting as an intern. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has never hired another GM other than Nelson, but he did tell a Dallas radio station that the move was made “to get smarter as an organization and we need to really expand what we’re doing.”
Donnie Nelson played a vital role in hiring Rosas. Cuban said, “I asked Donnie to go out there and find out who he thought would be the best person to do this, and he came back with Gersson’s name.”
The name Gersson Rosas may not be very known to most fans, but he was apart of the rebuilding of the Rockets roster and made their D-League team into a two-time champion.
