In an effort to free up more cap space to sign free agents like Monta Ellis, the Dallas Mavericks has released guard Josh Akognon from the team. He was the team’s leading scorer during the short NBA summer league season and was expected to be a bubble player going into training camp.
ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that this is a move, along with the release of Bernard James, by Dallas in order to finally sign Monta Ellis. Both roster moves have freed up another $600,000 in salary cap space.
There have been no rumors regarding where Akognon may end up, but many believe he will return to play basketball in China.
