The Dallas Mavericks thought they had their new backcourt set with Jose Calderon and Devin Harris, plus rookie Shane Larkin and Wayne Ellington coming off the bench. Shane Larkin breaking his ankle yesterday in practice and Devin Harris having newly discovered dislocated toe caused the Mavs to agree to terms with free agent Monta Ellis.
With Harris, the Mavs have nixed the three-year $9 million deal that would have brought him back to Dallas. The franchise however is still open to signing Harris at later date after they evaluate him a month from now. They could still use a veteran like Harris to allow Larkin to fully heal and allow Gal Mekel time to get acquainted with the NBA game.
