Metta World Peace on Mavs Radar?

Metta World Peace was released by the Los Angeles Lakers using the Amnesty Rule. Although Peace, formerly Ron Artest, had some of his best career years under Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle in Indiana, reports suggest that the Mavs will use the $8.2 million left in salary cap space to sign a center.

Metta and Rick Carlisle have a great relationship and have been very productive as a tandem. The roster currently consists of two players, Shawn Marion and Vince Carter, that play the same role an addition like Metta World Peace would play. If the Mavs are able to trade Marion, as they have tried this offseason, Peace would be a viable option to reunite with his former head coach. Peace loves the city of Dallas personally and does not mind playing here. The Mavs met with free agent center Samuel Dalembert yesterday, but have not offered him a contract as of yet.

Mavs are preparing to leave for Las Vegas to start NBA Summer League play tomorrow.
