Free agent guard Monta Ellis has limited his options to only four teams including the Dallas Mavericks. Also in the four are the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and Charlotte Bobcats.
The Mavericks best case sceneriao would be add both Ellis and Andrew Bynum to their roster. That would require trading Shawn Marion and his $9 million salary, but their has been little to no interest from other teams. Reports suggest that Ellis is looking for a deal similar to the extension the Milwaukee Buck offered him, three years for $36 million.
Monta would be the scoring threat the Mavs need in the backcourt. Head coach Rick Carlisle spoke on draft night about the change in basketball play in the NBA that requires teams to have athletic players that can create their own shot. Ellis would fit that description.
Update: Monta Ellis has fired his agent Jeff Fried due to the lack of large offers. Ellis opted out of a contract extension with his former team worth a total of $36 million. He reportedly is now represented by Dan Fegan.
