Dallas Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson addressed the media today and answered carefully questions regarding their meeting with Andrew Bynum. He did divulge that they did meet today, had lunch, and he met with the team’s medical staff.
Nelson also stated they are in constant contact with his agent David Lee and at this point it will be a medical decision whether they take a chance on signing Bynum.
Bynum currently has a two-year $24 million deal on the table with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the deal is really one incentive laden year with a team option for year two. The Mavericks have been informed they will have to make a more solid offer to acquire him. There is also the question of salary cap space. The team will have to trade either Shawn Marion or Vince Carter to make room for Bynum’s salary if signed.
