Now that missing the playoffs have set in, the Mavericks switch up the focus from making the playoffs to having a winning season. Tonight they will have to focus on the hottest team in the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets.

Denver (54-24) come to Dallas as the only team to sweep the Texas trio of NBA teams this season. Their motive is to secure the 3rd spot and home court advantage which is a league best 36-3. The Nuggets will be without their best two players Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari. Lawson is scheduled to return this weekend to get back going before the playoffs start.

Rick Carlisle: “They’ve  been very smart the way they’ve done it. It’s strength in numbers type of outfit.”

The Mavericks on the other hand want to have a winning season. Dirk Nowitzki

says, ” We’d love to finish with a positive record. ”

Hard to imagine this team beating anyone after the effort on display Wednesday night in an epic loss to the Phoenix Suns, but the if this season has been filled with anything it is suprises.

Expect upcoming free agents like Brandan Wright, Chris Kaman, and Mike James to play better tonight. The rest of the season is now a tryout for a job next season.

The ESPN Poll gives the Mavs a 2% chance of winning tonight.
