Yesterday the city of Dallas celebrated their first NBA championship with a parade for the hometown heroes, the Dallas Mavericks. Owner Mark Cuban not only paid the bill for this event, he led his team down the streets as the parade made their way down to the AAC arena for one big party. Leave it to Cuban to be extravagant, generous, and to make a bit of a controversy.
Okay, controversy might be a tad strong, but things are slow right now. Every team looks forward to winning the championship so that they can do two things: lift the trophy and get their rings. In fact, yesterday the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers received their rings for winning the Super Bowl this past February. But Mark Cuban thinks the ring thing has been done to death. He wants to give his boys something different, something hip and fresh. Rumors are flying that he is considering giving the players bracelets.
Say what? Bracelets?!?! Maybe I am too old school by what is wrong with the ring? And why a bracelet? How many men sport one of those, especially in Texas? The players are urging Cuban to stay with tradition and get them their rings. If he wants to get them something else in addition to the championship rings, go for it. I kind of like the idea of a championship belt myself.
The players, in addition to wanting those coveted rings, have a few other ideas.
Jason Terry, one of the longest tenured members of the team, decided to show his appreciation for his teammates in a couple of ways. Not only did JET get everyone cigars for the parade (perhaps inspired by the Smoking Cuban?), but he decided to get them a little something that they could enjoy well into the future. Terry got each teammate a bottle of Crown Royal XR, an extremely rare, premium whiskey along with personalized bag.
What better way to celebrate being kings of the NBA then with a little Crown? Check out the pics of the one JET gave to Dirk Nowitzki. There is no doubt that the Mavericks are going to enjoy this long-awaited title. Well done boys!
