Team Concept Taking Hold
Dirk does not want to be a ball hog. It’s great that he can take over a game single handily, but he’s a smart player (not a selfish one). Dirk knows that is takes a total team effort to win and to continue winning like the Mavericks have. Looking at the last two games, Dirk must be really happy. In the last two contests not only have their been 7 or 8 guys scoring in double figures, but the bench has really been kicking some serious #ss lately. Against the Grizzlies and Nuggets the Maverick bench outscored them easily, 91-35. [...]
Sometimes you have to Complain!
It is nice to be considered the man; to be the go to guy. A guy like Iverson would love to be on a team that looked at him that way (like in the early days of his career when he was a bad, bad man- which I mean in the Run D.M.C way). Over the course of an 82 game season and then the ‘second season’ or playoffs it can tend to grind on a guy. Basketball is supposed to be a team sport after all. Kobe did not win a thing until he got some help; neither did [...]
Early Christmas Presents and a Lump of Coal
First off, Merry Christmas! Here’s hoping for peace on earth, good will towards all, and a victory for your team! In this time of Holiday Spirit gifts can be found in many shapes and sizes; sometimes they might not even be something tangible that you can hold. Such is the type of gifts that the Dallas Mavericks gave their fans prior to Christmas Day. Gift Number One- potential Sunday night they were without their MVP candidate and perennial all-star Dirk Nowitzki as he recovered from the laceration he got on his elbow (along with two of Carl Landry’s teeth) against [...]
Pride of the Lone Star State Even in Defeat
With their superstar headed to the hospital the Mavericks were not looking too hot against their in-state rival, the Houston Rockets, Friday night. At the 9:28 mark of the 2nd quarter, the toast of Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki was driving the lane and took a hard foul from Carl Landry; hard enough that it left one of his teeth in Dirk’s elbow (luckily it was just a laceration which should not cause the superstar to miss anytime). Conventional thought would have you believe that the Mavericks would be sunk without the best player the franchise has ever seen. For a good [...]
Should have listened to the Fresh Prince!
Will Smith, aka the Fresh Prince, said it best in one of his early rap hits, “…the girls of the world ain’t nothing but trouble.” He didn’t mean to bust anyone’s bubble; man was just speaking the truth. Dirk Nowitzki would agree. A recent news article reported the Maverick forward as saying he empathized with Tigerand the mess he is going through now with his harem becoming public knowledge. Dirk is referring of course to the media attention his relationship with Cristal Taylor got last summer. Hold up Dirk. In Tiger we have a guy that married a gorgeous model [...]
An Easy Choice for the All-Star Game
The NBA released the first set of all-star numbers recently. As it stands, the German force known as Dirk Nowitzki would be among the starting five. At last count Dirk had 366,000 votes; firmly ahead of Pau Gasol at 288,000 and well behind Carmelo Anthony who is somewhere over 500,000. The trouble with all-star balloting in the NBA is that the fans choose the starting five meaning that popularity can override actual play. The fact that the Rockets Tracy McGrady is a leading vote getter is proof of that- the man has not stepped on a court since last February! [...]
Never a Dull Cuban!
It’s easy to write about the latest games and the losses which the Mavericks have been suffering of late. When a team is losing the journalists, bloggers, and analysts seem to talk more about the team than when it was winning. Since the rest of them are going on and on about the losing streak and what is wrong with the team I want to focus on something much more entertaining. Mark Cuban. I knew that eventually this guy would do something that would be hilarious and entertaining during the season and he did just that Monday night by appearing [...]
A Line in the Record Books You Can Not Brag About
Typically when you get an entry into the record books, or even if you are just part of an entry, it is kind of a small honor. For the Nets on Wednesday there was no honor whatsoever in being added into the record books. The Mavericks can’t even take much joy in the part they played either (can you really be proud of exposing an other’s ineptitude?). For a time it looked like the Nets might escape with just tying the record. After one period the score was tied at 28. New coach, Kiki Vandeweghe, who did not take over [...]
